Congratulations to the newly appointed leadership of the South African Department of Basic Education

The Zenex Foundation extends its heartfelt congratulations to President Cyril Ramaphosa and the newly-appointed leadership in the national and provincial departments of basic education. We were particularly delighted and encouraged by the retention of the education Minister and some provincial education MECs, particularly in two provinces in which we work (Gauteng and the Western Cape). We look forward to a continuation of our partnership with government as we work together to address key education challenges in South Africa.

We were particularly encouraged that, in his inauguration speech, the President highlighted his vision that every child should be able to read. We support our president’s vision. The department of basic education also shared the news that its ministry is committed to strengthening partnerships in Early Grade Reading. Over many years, the Zenex Foundation has dedicated substantial resources to early grade reading and numeracy in order to build a solid foundation for children to flourish in society. We look forward to continuing to work together with government and other partners to ensure that every child in South Africa is literate and numerate.
